Whether you are a boss or an employee, June is a great time to focus on wellness. Our June calendar for wellness will keep you inspired all month.
What is Wellness?
Wellness is a term that refers to a wide range of activities, choices, and lifestyle habits that promote all aspects of health. Most people consider it a process rather than a state of being. The goal is to constantly work toward healthier habits that improveall aspects of being healthy and well:
- Emotional
- Spiritual
- Intellectual
- Social
- Physical
- Occupational
Wellness is holistic, meaning all of these aspects of your life interact and affect each other. Complete wellness results from addressing all of them. Wellness is also about balance rather than restrictions or perfection. It is a positive, proactive process.
How to Improve Wellness
Because wellness is a process, it is important to address it daily. Make decisions and take actions every day that improve your emotional, spiritual, intellectual, social, physical, and occupational health. It’s also important to keep in mind that, although other people affect your wellness, it is a matter of self-responsibility. It is up to you to improve your wellness. Here are some ideas from our June calendar to get you started:
- Try a mindfulness meditation. Meditation has so manypositive health benefits that touch on several aspects of wellness. It reduces stress and blood pressure, improves symptoms of depression and other mental illnesses, and helps you gain perspective on your life. Regular meditation can make you more resilient in the face of challenges.
- Make and keep a friend date. Most people struggle to find the time to prioritize friendships, but socialization is important to overall wellness. It’s one of the primary aspects of well-being but one that most of us neglect. Make a date with friends and stick with it, even if you feel busy.
- Start a gratitude journal. One of the best things you can do to improve your mental health is to actively practice gratitude.Research consistently shows a correlation between gratitude and happiness. It helps you feel less envious and more appreciative of and satisfied with life. A journal is an easy way to practice gratitude. Use it every night to write down at least one thing from your day that you are grateful for. Even on the worst days, you should be able to think of one thing.
- Go for a walk. Walking is one of the best forms of exercise. It combines beneficial physical activity with time spent outdoors, both of which improve physical and mental wellness. Being outdoors and in nature is a proven mood booster. Get bonus benefits for walking with a friend.
